Rabindranath Tagore is certainly known as one of the best poets India has ever produced but lately curiosity in Rabindranath as a person has flared up. This eagerness has recently found a new focus. This is what might be described as Tagore’s ‘Personal life.’ One notices a lot of discussions, writing, serialized accounts and films that deal with this. There is no point ruing this eagerness.
Rabindranath never labeled himself an ascetic of any sort. But one must look into the recent phenomenon affecting Bengalis, namely their overwhelming interest in Tagore’s ‘Personal life.’ Writer Rajatsubhra Majumdar added something new to it with KATHACHHOBI KADAMBARI.
Kadambari Devi was the wife of Jyotirindranath Tagore, the elder brother of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. She was married to Jyotirindranath Tagore, on 5 July 1868 at the age of 9 years. Then Rabithakur was 7 years old. They were almost of the similar age group. When Kadambari came to in-laws house, Rabi being similar in age, became her playmate and companion. She also inspired him to write poems. Rajatsubhra Majumdar has already worked with eminent artists like Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Rudraprasad Sengupta, Debshankar Halder, Bratati Bandyopadhyay and others. So, this thing is not new to him and it shows how efficiently he handles everything. The recitation is done by Doel Barua and the music is given by Indrajit Dey. Another film version of Rajatsubhra Majumdar’s poem will be launched soon. Along with Saumitra Chattopadhyay, we will find here the poet himself as an actor.
