Wildlife is a precious gift of God to this planet. The term ‘Wildlife’ not only caters to wild animals but also takes into account all undomesticated lifeforms including birds, insects, plants, fungi and even microscopic organisms. For maintaining a healthy ecological balance on this earth, animals, plants, and marine species are as important as humans. But nowadays people are seen destroying the natural habitat of animals so to raise our conscience in this matter Kolkata presents the 3rd Kolkata International Wildlife & Environment Film Festival – 2017 (KIWEFF).

Bringing together 250 films from 50 countries, city’s first ‘wildlife and environment film festival’ is scheduled from 15th December to 17th December 2017. The festival will have five categories – feature film, short film, animation, documentaries and public service announcements. Being organized by NGO Desham, the three-days Kolkata International Wildlife and Environment Film Festival would be organized across six venues in the city. They are Indian museum Ashutosh hall, Gorky Sadan, Rotary Sadan Chowringhee, Bhasa Parishad, Aikatan, and Purbashree.

All the films Submitted by Film Makers to the Festival under Feature Films, Short films, Documentaries and Animated films categories and created after 1 January 2012 will be included under Competition Section of the festival program. If any filmmaker wants the screening of his/her film which is completed before 2012, it will be accepted but will be excluded from the competition. KIWEFF does not charge any entry fee for the festival. The Prize distribution ceremony will be on 17th December. It is an amazing initiative and we, the people of Kolkata must go and support them to raise the conscience about wildlife among people.
