After spending years in designing costumes for film stars and celebrities, eminent designer Agnimitra Paul gets the chance to design the wardrobe of Maa Dugga and her family along with Asur for this year’s festivity. The surprise move is the brain child of members of Santosh Mitra Square (Lebutala Park) Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee.
As per the Puja committee members Mr Pradip Ghosh & Mr Sajal Ghosh, the theme of the Puja is ‘London’ but they have special surprise for Maa Durga and her family as well. Designer Costumes is a first time in Durga Puja history and this news has created a lot of interest among the citizens of the region and also in abroad.
As per reports, Agnimitra will be designing the saree of Maa Durga in an innovative way with traditional touch but the main attraction will be the work of gold on it, and the weight of the saree will be around 18 kgs. Paul has some special ideas when it comes to designing sarees for Laxmi and Saraswati. The challenging part will be to give a different look to Kartik who is supposedly the handsome hunk among the Devas while his brother Ganesh may pose some challenges with his belly pot. Agnimitra is particularly excited about designing for the most handsome Asur who she thinks have a perfect body and macho looks. Her main challenge is to create something unique but keeping the traditional essence intact.
Agnimitra is a renowned personality in the fashion world and posses years of experience in handling challenging projects. She has managed Bolly Diva Sridevi’s personal wardrobe and designed for many Bollywood and Tollywood movies where she got chance to work with stars like Kay Kay Menon, Sonali Kulkarni, Mithun Chakraborty, Rituparna Sengupta, Jeet, Koel Mallick, Swastika Mukherjee and Mauli Ganguly and many more.
Santosh Mitra Square has been one of the most popular destinations for Puja hoppers over the years but this time they are sure to be the show stoppers. Idols will be created by Montu Pal while Amar Sarkar is the overall creative head of the Puja. The Puja Organizers promises a lot more surprises which will unfold in the run up to the festivities. This is their 82nd year.
