Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, the cult fantasy adventure film directed by the legend Satyajit Ray, may return on the big screen next year, in a completely new avatar, and with a new story. Incidentally, 2019 marks the golden jubilee year of the film’s release, which has since been acknowledged as one of the most accomplished musicals in the history of Indian cinema. According to several reports, director Anindya Chatterjee will be seen directing the film. He is also given the duty to write the new story of the movie. The film will be produced by Priya Entertainments Arijit Dutta, in this regard. Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne was produced by Ashim Dutta and Arijit’s grandfather Nepal Dutta. Both producers hailed from the same family and were the owners of Purnima Pictures. Arijit now owns the film rights of Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne.
Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne had two more films in the series. Hirak Rajar Deshe, directed by Ray, released in 1980, and Goopy Bagha Phire Elo, directed by his son Sandip Ray, opened in 1991. The film was adapted from a 20-page short story written by Satyajit’s grandfather Upendrakishore Roychowdhury. From several reports, we could also know that the production company of Prosenjit Chatterjee, Nideas Production Pvt Ltd. will also be producing a film on Goopi Bagha very soon! We can only compare both the films after their release, till then we have to wait.
