The case of Bhawal Sanyasi is one of the most intriguing in the history of Indian judiciary. It has all the materials for a suspense drama. The court cases dragged on for years temporarily rested at times of world war 2. This case had three trials and the last one dragged in the Privy council in London.
This story inspired Sannyasi Raja, the 1975 movie of Uttam Kumar. Now as per reports Srijit Mukherjee is doing extensive research on the case and his intentions are to make a film on it. Srijit mainly depending on two books for his research works – A Prince, Poison and Two Funerals: The Bhowal Sanyasi Case by Murad Fyzee and A Princely Impostor? – The Strange and Universal History of the Kumar of Bhawal by Partha Chatterjee.
Srijit wants to make this movie a court room drama based on the actual proceedings. This movie will be looking at the story from court room arguments which is completely different more the folklores and Uttam Kumar’s Sannyasi Raja.
