Mohalla Assi: A Socio-Political Drama Set in Banaras, the Spiritual City of India


The much-awaited Mohalla Assi trailer is out now and it’s looking promising. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film explores the ugly side of Varanasi. The trailer is full of abuses and crass words that after a point it gets to you. The trailer desperately tries to unfold the dark truth of the city, glimpses of which are evident from the trailer. The makers are unabashedly trying to bring forth the dirty secrets of the pious city, out in the open and it seems they are unapologetic about the same. Played by Sunny Deol, the film’s lead character is a guy who likes to use cuss words in his daily conversations. Sakshi Tanwar plays his so called innocent wife who doesn’t understand why foreigners are so much interested in Varanasi.

Mohalla Assi is based on book Upanyas, a novel by noted Hindi writer Kashi Nath Singh and it focuses on the life of a middle class family that earns its bread and butter by organizing religious rituals. The film stars Sunny Deol, Sakshi Tanwar, Ravi Kishan, Saurabh Shukla, Mukesh Tiwari, Rajendra Gupta, Mithilesh Chaturvedi and Seema Azmi in key roles. will finally hit the screens on 16 November after getting ‘A’ Certificate to release after battling for two years. Presented by Crossword Entertainment in association with Wisdom Tree Productions, this movie revolves around conflict between the principles and realities of our time, unfolds a challenging story of our great civilization.
