Although there are many directors making films in Bengali, only a few of them have succeeded in leaving an impression. One such director is Manoj Michigan who had raised the bar with his previous offering ‘89‘ in 2015. This time he is back with another gem titled ‘Aami Joy Chatterjee‘. This is not merely a film, but 142 minutes of a psychological journey which will take you on a ride, with or without your consent. The storyline of the film is based on soul travel or spirit walking with specific humanitarian inputs. After Dmajor in 2016 this the the second production by Shivanggi Choudharry, one of the younger generation producers who looks promising.

After ‘Aborto‘ and ‘Bisarjon‘, this time again Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan plays opposite Abir Chatterjee, playing a supporting role though in a perfect way as Aditi. Shataf Figar as ACP Dutta deserves a special mention. Not to forget Shataf, who with each film is growing in stature as an actor. Manas Ganguly does a commendable job with the lens here. Some top shots of roads captured on celluloid makes the journey smoother. The film has mostly been shot in Kolkata along with small portions filmed in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, and Siliguri. In a very Bengali way, the film is exceptional. Mr. Michigan successfully busts the myth of ego or’ aami’ through spirituality!

It’s no wonder that such a great film is selected for The Hong Kong International Film Premiere. To promote Hong Kong as the regional hub for distribution and production of film, TV programs and entertainment-related products in Asia Pacific, also the Society promotes international appreciation of Asian, Hong Kong and Chinese film culture; introduces world cinema to Hong Kong audiences; and continues to underline Hong Kong’s key position in the international film community. Aami Joy Chatterjee will be screened there on 21st March 2018. This is a glorious time for Bengali cinema and we hope that more of such films will be made so that it can add glory and fame to Bengali Cinema before the world audience.
